I have just seen a preview of the new Donald Crowhurst drama-doc soon to hit the cinemas. It's called Deep Water and is done somewhat in the style of Touching the Void (by the same team). No actors, just contemporary news and home-movie footage neatly edited with good commentary. Fun to look back on Chichester's arrival at Plymouth, then Knox Johnson in Suhaili. And shots of what boating was like in those days. This is not really a sailing film. It's the story of a man tormented and ultimately driven mad by the stress of events. What a doomed character he was, his boat so frail and badly prepared, even his physical presence seeming so inadequate. The interviews with his wife and son are deeply touching. I was lost in it.
