Please does anyone have any recommendations for Deep Cycle Batteries - our current Fiamm 100Ah unit is giving up the ghost after what I guess is about 10 years

If you got 10 years out of a battery then that is pretty good. So replace with same if you can. otherwise I alweays let price be the main guide. But of course it has to fit in the exixting box etc. olewill

I just replaced 2 x 578 (85amp) and the design has slightly changed on the ones I bought - terminals now stick up rather than concealed under lifting handle - adds extra 20mm. Made fitting them very tight.

Take a view: if you get gell batteries or some such and pay a premium how much extra life will you get? Worth it?

For myself, I replaced my 130 amph batteries with equivalent wets, got them in Holland en route, as it happens, and lowest price. Keep them charged up and expect a few years good service. So far so good.

Moral: if you replace batteries with lower price - not spec - equivalents, it doesn't hurt to replace them more frequently, with much enhanced peace of mind!

Don't go for Gels on any account, unleass you live on shore power. I have one on my bow thrusters and foredeck winch - it takes the charge soooo slowly compared with lead accid wets.
