Having stripped off the previously stuck on plastic tiles I'm left with ply walls ,previously painted in Westerly grey with speckles, and some unfinished grp.
I'd like to use some sort of paint to give a quick and cheap finish.

Any suggestions for which paint and what preparation the GRP will need?

This is how it looks now.

I was about to order some of these PVC sheets to line my heads with, figured I would just glues them to the walls, sealent aroud the edges, and instantly transform it into a wet room. Nice and easy to clean, just hose down.

Yup international danboline comes in white... I have just painted over the mould in our lockers with it. both on grp and wood walls. Just one coat and it looks great.

I can vouch for Danboline, used for many years in my bilge. But it is quite a soft paint and wouldn't be suitable in areas of high wear. My preference would be for a polyurethane paint like International Brightside in this application - tough and glossy, not too expensive. For a bit more dosh, judicious use of a filler is going to improve the finish enormously.

I painted out the forepeak of our boat with some nondrip gloss from Woolworths. Its been on about 2 years without discolouring or flaking.Cheap and good in my opinion.

What ever you use needs to be robust enough to stand scrubbing and disinfecting after redecoration of the Cardinal Chunder type underway. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

We have just redecorated ours too. We used all Dulux paints, I can't remember the name of the primer (not on boat at mo) but it was a very aggresive one suitable for 'difficult surfaces'. I think its called 'Super Grip'. Then paint with two top coats of Egshell paint in the colour of your choice!

It really is worth going to a 'Dulux Trade Centre' if you have one nearby.

The paint is very hardwaring and easy to repaint in 5/6 years time.

Cheers

NarrowBoaters use ceramic tiles fixed to plywood fixed with cork tile adhesive. Now, I know that AWB's probably flex a bit more than steel - but even on the wooden bulkheads we've not had any tile fall off in 5 years of use. OK most of my surfaces are flat - but it may be worth a thought...

I'd suggest that this isn't a great solution for boats which may flex in a blow. That's when tiles may drop off and break and it's the last time you would want broken bits of ceramic tile being thrown around. It does sound like a good idea for narrowboats which don't normally suffer these conditions.
