I vaguely remember seeing a diagram of how to secure deck shoe laces securely but still be able to adjust them and get on and off easily. Does anyone have any ideas - or any pet methods of their own?
Tie the bow as normal, but after making the final loop pass it through the centre of the knot. With stiff laces you may have to tighten the knot with your thumbs, pushing it together as you gently pull the loops tight.
With any bow you have to ensure that as you make it you do so in the correct way so that the knot is in fact a reef knot with loops, rather than a granny knot. If the loops naturally sit at right angles to the centre line of the shoe it is OK. If at 45 degrees, you have tied a granny knot.
