My faithful Timberlands have finally expired and it was time to buy a new pair. I was astonished that they now cost something like £85. Searching t'internet for someone online to do them cheaper, I found nothing in the UK, but came across this site:

www.shoebuy.com

Slightly nervous about ordering from the US (many of the US shoe-sites would not allow shipping outside America), the price persuaded me: not only were Timberlands only $63 incl. a discount, but with the ex-rate at >$2 they were a nearly a third of the price of buying them here. Admittedly p&p costs a bit, but since it wasn't much more for two pairs than one ($36) I ordered two pairs - one for boat, one for best!

They arrived this morning, exactly two-weeks after ordering them. Brilliant!

How about import duties? Popeye was "done" for EUR38 on his last shoe purchase - bill came later from Fedex.
Mind you, he still maintains they were cheaper then any in Europe

If you ensure that they are sent by US Mail rather than FEDEx the Royal Mail is responsible for collecting the duty "on delivery" and, so far, I've never been asked. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Not Timberland quality but OK

Timberland quality is not what it used to be. I have a pair of Timberland walking shoes that are 15 years old, they are still looking good. Bought a pair of Timberland deck shoes about 3 years ago and they are falling apart. One pair was made in the USA and the other in China; guess which ones! I notice Sebago Docksides are now also made in China. Is anything made in Europe/ USA these days ?

[/ QUOTE ] Yes. Makita tools have started outsourcing their manufacturing to the Sates.

Just noticed that these US Timberlands are actually made in the US. Maybe it's just the export market they reckon they can fob off with cheap Chinese crap and their US consumers are more demanding? I also noticed that these shoes were available in different width fittings which I'm pretty sure is not the case over here.
