I have been told that there is a new (?) form of deck paint or compound that is very hard wearing and can be poured or brushed onto most surfaces.

It sounds too good to be true, but has anyone else know of it?

Assuming one purchases the Sandtex or Dulux, can it be pigmented to match the existing deck colour say by using the colour chart for the Dulux brands? A sample needed of course to match up.

I get mine tinted at the local Dulux trade centre. I've found matching the shades very difficult even using the colour cards with holes punched in them. Main thing is, that as I paint my colours are now reasonably consistent.

I used sandtex masonry paint on my last boat, Excellent results and lasted well when I sold the boat two years later.

I used a new tub of the same paint at the begging of this season and it looked **** after two weeks. The paint lifted and wore off very quickly making my boat look awful all season.

I removed most of the remaining Sandex last weekend with a jet hose...

I would not recommend Sandex anymore, it would appear they have changed the formula. I have learned my lesson and I will be using dedicated deck paint this winter.

Has anyone bought and used Sandex this year to good results?

Bert, You may find it's easier than you expect. I managed to lift most of the paint in an afternoon with a jet washer / hose.

Granted mine is only a folksong, but a weekend with a jet hose to do your decks is a better prospect than several weekends with a sander!

Hope it goes ok.

This is the exact experience I had this year. Back to proper deck paint for me too.

To the other posters referring to sanding off the deck paint, a decent sander with course paper will do the job quickly. Erbauer sanders from Screwfix are pretty good and at a fair price. I can prepare my decks on a 28 footer in a few hours. I use this http://www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-erb404sdr-compact-sheet-palm-sander-230-240v/29792# and a Metabo half sheet machine which is superb.

FWIW my deck has liquid lino on it in places, from over 20 years ago, the only way I can shift it is with an angle grinder. Since I can't find the stuff now I use flocoat with sand which is good, but it doesn't stick to the liquid lino. If I could get LL I would use it, with sand.

any reason you don't use non slip pearls? they are only a couple of quid but don't destroy expensive oilies and shoes like sand does.
