I am replacing my old naval pipe on the boat this weekend as the flappy bit broke on the old one. The new one is flat on the bottom and the deck, funnily enough, is curved. I need to cut a pad for the deck. I have some nice ply at home that fits the bill but I will have to shave in to the bottom of it to fit the curve. I would normally go out and buy some Iroko - but I haven't the time - will the ply, coated in epoxy, primed and painted white be good enough for the job?

I'd make the pad solid fiberglass.Marine ply would do especially if epoxied and painted but I'd still prefer a fiberglass one.

As previous poster suggests, I wouldn't use wood. I'd cast a base in epoxy

It's very easy if you follow the instructions in the WEST User Guide

See "Casting a base"

But to answer your question "will the ply, coated in epoxy, primed and painted white be good enough for the job? ".

Yes - but I still think the cast epoxy base would be easier and more durable.

MDPE ? Otherwise known as a chopping board about 3 quid in the supermarket and you get lots of backing material
