Ok so I am sorting out friction in the lines leading back to the cockpit and I found the sheaves in my deck organisers have collapsed:

So I remove the top and take out the sheave. They looks just like the Barton Deck Organisers but they're not. I then find this page showing the right size sheave and this site charges £18 per replacement sheave!!!!! YES £18 FOR A BIT OF PLASTIC claiming they are discontinued and they have main some aftermarket ones.

I looked about for another replacement sheave measuring 38mm DIA, 19mm Deep and a 15mm bore but no luck. I then thought this looks strangely like a small pulley wheel I use for mountaineering which clips to a carabiner and makes it work like a pulley. I head downstairs into the climbing kit cupboard and hey presto they are identical in size! And they are about £2 each.

Can anyone point me to a place where I can get replacement sheaves to my measurement above or see a reason why I couldn't use the rock climbing version?

I can see two reasons:
1) they are made of nylon which is hygroscopic and swells as it absorbs water, so it could possibly bind in the fitting. Soak them in water for a week and see if they still fit, if so, crack on.
2) you will not have paid the yachtsman's inflated pricing tax, so, err...........

The grey one looks like Lewmar and you can order it from Lewmar. Here in France I order them from Osculati where its cheaper

Your fingers look like shite, just like mine at the moment. Try Neutrogena :encouragement:

For those following this thread and for those reading later regarding sheave replacement this is what I have found out. I contacted all the suppliers and managed to find the correct part, albeit difficultly. However, I then got an email from one of them that said they could make up sheaves, custom made for around £7 each. They quote:

"They are made from acetal which is UV resistant, and we make out of a solid piece, not a mould. The Lewmar ones are nylon, and because they are moulded when you get continual wear, it can result in holes in the sheave. They also do not shrink or stretch as acetal is a non absorbent material"

At £7 each that is a custom made piece that is better than the manufacturers spec for less than what the lewmar replacements are.

If I had got their email earlier I would have gone for it but by that time I'd already ordered a load of Lewmar sheaves. The custom made ones can be done by:

Good plug for Cornish Industry (well Dad was a School of Mines graduate in 1912) -

I got my last lot, turned from acetal bar, by my tame machine shop in Messologgi for €5 for 5. (55mm od x 18mm)
Whilst value for money is important - I've found that most of the frictional resistance on cockpit-led lines, is in the deck tidies.
Perhaps one would do better replacing the whole thing with properly engineered ones like Ronstan or Harken with acetal sheaves and ball-bearings?
Mine are two-decker, 4 on the bottom and 3 on top, so it's a pretty penny to replace.
Well, I've been single-handing since 1990, before anyone starts expostulating about overkill.

I've had some anchor rollers made by them. I remember thinking they were a little more than I expected to pay, but maybe I wasn't being realistic :). Certainly a good product and service :encouragement:

The annoying thing is that I own a lathe on which I could turn out rollers nae bother at all, but it's all crated up and stored away for lack of workshop space :(
