Hi

I have a 6.72 mtr boat with a marine ply deck, i want to tidy this up and i am not sure the best way to go, the ply at parts of the deck had been left exposed to the elements.
Whin i sanded i found at parts of the deck i had lost a layer of the ply, now the deck is uneven. i was really only wanting to paint it and did, but being a darkish blue it is showing up all the flaws, when i sanded it the ply below looks okay so i am wondering if i should spend more time sanding and then Paint if i do what type of paint EPOXY?
Or should i glass it and then paint or shopuld i use a deck covering like TEK DEK or go the whole way and put on a teak deck???
I realy would like to do it right first time and make a good job, she deserves that

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Number of options. If the ply is sound underneath the damaged outer face then you could fill the damaged parts with an epoxy filler - mix your own with epoxy and microballoons if not too deep or re-inforce with glass cloth or add wood fibres to the mix. Get a smooth surface - lots of sanding required - beware of airborn dust and fibres. Easiest finish is glass cloth (not mat) in epoxy. If you leave the weave showing you can paint so it looks like canvas. Or you can finish smooth, using peel ply if you want a really good surface and then paint. Laying teak I would suggest using veneers about 2.5mm thick - if you can get them where you are. Available from Robbins in Bristol. Can only be laid straight but you can shape around the curves at the edges. Would not advise solid teak as not only is it very expensive but is also heavy. More appropriate for larger boats where you can work the curves and weight is not so important. Fake Teak like Tek Dek is an alternative, cheaper than teak if you do it yourself, but you will still need to do the levelling of the surface first.

Hope this helps
