Deck Fittings

Regarding Deck Fittings.

My deck fitting are cast in an alloy (I think) metal.
I have had to drill and file one of them, so that bare metal is showing.
Does anyone know what they would have been coated with; they are charcoal grey in colour.
I need to cover the bare metal.

Thanks but they would be to glossy, fitting are flat coated.

Chinese galvanising. Heat the fitting up untill its cherry red then plunge into a bucket of tar. The tar will catch fire whereupon you douse it with water. The tar then adheres to the metal like the proverbiale sh*t to a blanket.
You probably have to do this to a iron based fitting so it wont work if its an aluminum.

If the fittings are aluminium alloy, you won't be plunging them into the tar when they're cherry red, you'll be pouring them!

Try the magnet test first.

Hardley they could be alloy, powder coated black.
