Sealant for bedding in chainplate deck fittings - Sikaflex or Polysulphide (eg Boatlife caulk) ???

Sikaflex is a brand name.You need polysulphide available from many manufacturers.Polyurethane sealant is also suitable but it is such a strong adhesive it could damage the deck if you ever dismantle the fitting.

Sikaflex 291 is a polyurethane sealant. Look here for a full list of Sika's marine products.
I use Sikaflex for virtually all sealing/bedding requirements. It is strong and flexible, just what is wanted in most cases. The only times I don't use it is for delicate items such as window frames, where its adhesion might prove to be too much in case of removal. Otherwise you can always get fittings off with a bit of leverage.

This http://www.spares2you.co.uk/Caravan+and+...STRIP+32mm.html never sets and provides a good seal. Best of all, no damage on dismantling. I've used it for years (in some cases re-used it!).

My local sikaflex man says 221 is the same as 291 except for the name "marine" and there for here is cheaper.
