Decent eateries in Weymouth?

There are a couple of good resturants on the side of the harbour where the lifeboat is but cannot remember their names.

Mallams, in the Cove south side. Haven't been for some time but heard it was still OK. See Mallams

Perrys is almost next door and also good last time we tried but been a while. See Perry's

Both of these are proper restaurants, for pub grub the Nothe Inn (I think that's the name) on the road going to the Nothe castle was good.

Caveats with these, it has been a while since we ate at them.

Yep, Mallams was the place I ate, it was a couple of years ago but one of the very best meals I have had, could have been becuase we had come in from a very long and hard sail from Chichester.

I will check tides and conditions and give it some consideration, maybe we will see you. Do you stay overnight?

Where ever you eat ask to see the kitchens first and decide if you can cope with eating food prepared in there. Look for mouse and rat droppings under tables, state of rubbish bins, does chef look like he's been delivering coal (many do) are the waitresses/waiters disinterested, scruffy (mostly) check the glasses for thumb prints and other detritus. Look at the state of the tables and surroundings. Run your finger under the table, people stick all sort of things under there not just chewing gum, wash your hands afterwards and before eating! Staff finger nails clean? Cloth they're using to serve food with. Do they rest bottle of wine/beer on the glass rim as they pour. Is cutlery clean and shiny. Is chair and floor clean - look under table. Your best bet is fish and chips - the high temperatures involved will kill the streptoccus from the cook's nose picking and the salmonella in the chicken and it will not be touched by human hand after leaving the cooking medium until you eat it. Otherwise just enjoy the usual grubby surroundings, poorly cooked food, indifferent service, barmaid filing her nails, dirty glasses, dirty cutlery and don't forget to leave a tip cos you'd feel guilty and it wasn't the waitresses fault. Then tell everybody it wasn't bad but you did have the runs and the wife has fully recovered. There is a nice little place served really good food and lovely staff down by the............. BOL keep them on their toes

GC1, Col and KevB are currently scheduled to be there; I assume they will stay overnight if the conditions are favourable. In the past we have stayed over in a raft of 6, based outrselves in the south deep and just run out for the fireworks on the biggest boat then back, and missed they alltogether one year when we couldn't find a sober skipper amongst the raft in Poole Harbour at all!

I think there will also be a few forumites around on the final saturday of the carnival (5th). Us, Wiggo & Hurricane for starters. We'll have our forum flags flying /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

yep - even if I run over to the CIs midweek I would look to be back Saturday night into Swanage. Forecast for travelling looks good - forecast for sitting on the beach/boat however looks a bit grey /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif brightening up later in the week though.

Floods is excellent but busy.
Italian... Prezzos on the town bridge is fully booked on Saturday.
Perrys has just changed hands and is supposed now to be much improved with friendly people.
Mallams is OK but not that cheap.
Nothe Tavern on south side past Mallams. Perrys and the Old Rooms pub and on towards the fort is very good and friendly. Sadly I missed the policewoman strippogram there last Friday but I'm camping there just in case.....

RDYC (not at all snobbish or upmarket for those that haven't been there, very friendly and welcoming) can be a bit hit or miss on the food front. Sometimes they have quite a decent menu, but on a couple of occasions the only things on the menu were steak, steak, or mixed grill (with steak)
