Decent Anchorage in the Blackwater??
As part of our week cruise we will be sailing from Fambridge to Heybridge this weekend.
The tides mean that unless we get up at silly o'clock we will have to go this in 2 legs and stop overnight on the Blackwater.

Can anyone recommend a good anchorage on the Blackwater, around the Bradwell area?

Many thanks.

Mersea Island?

Can get a bit lumpy at times, but usually a buoy or two available. Never been asked for a fee. Spent some time there waiting for fog to clear.

Anchorage just to the east of the disused jetty.

Depends on route & wind dir. If you're going via the Spitway, just inside Colne Point is good in an E'ly. Further in, there's Mersea Stone & Pyefleet Creek.

If youre going via the Raysand, anchoring E. of Bradwell Creek is OK (but not too close the the Barrier Wall that's being removed) again wind permitting. Opposite is Mersea, which is mainly moorings, but if it's blowing you can find good shelter there.

Tollesbury flats, inside (N of) the Thirslet Spit and off St. Lawrence Bay are all possible - wind permitting. Then it's Stone SC & Marconi SC moorings (lumpy wind over tide in a blow) and Osea Pier up to the Doubles buoys (above that it can all but dry @ LW.)

Hope this helps

Do come over to the East Coast Forum (not that there is anything wrong with the advice you have here (note that the baffle wall removal has finished so there is just the central part - avoiding anchoring over the power cables to the shore!).

You will find charts for the Ray Sand, Bradwell, Mersea Quarters, Tollesbury (just due to be amended with a buoy move - wait until Friday evening before downloading) and Lawling Creek on my website for you to download - FREE of course!!

Have a very good time

I agree, the ECF is a good place to be. We don't do colregs, mobo/raggie rants or ensign threads, unless it's to praise the beauty of my Vatican ensign; gosh she's a beauty.
