Is it just me, or was this issue almost entirely devoid of content? Even that crappy "Here's Johnny" column was a ripoff - he stole that idea from tcm, who has published his patent boat buying scam on these forums with alarming regularity...

Bah! Humbug! Off to buy last month's MBM to read on the train.

Also if i remember there is an Alarming picture of an old Sealine, with a hell of a lot of people on it.

It was quite a thin issue wasn't it? 174 pages. Only skiimed it but there's some decent stuff:

Great new waterproof digicam p 98 - ordering one of those right now.

Nice picture of Villefranche jetty p16, a place whose entire taxi driving industry was kept busy one evening recently by Observer ( he sped off to airport from here in a black stretch merc, but forgot his passport, so called another merc to chase the first merc, then forgot his camera so another merc, and so on.......).

You can play "Where's Wally" on page 15 by spotting the wally power 118.

The networked electric gear on p80/81 looks the biz - Magnum why not call princess and see if they'll stick this in the p67? Also can I nerdishly point out that while this Dec 04 issue praises the system the July 2001 issue page 46 was less keen?

And on page 8 there's a picture of someone who's gone ape, I've no idea who :)

Cancelled my sub to MBM earlier this year as I felt it was becoming like a 'what car' type of editorial which I found boring as opposed to its previous layout and content which was much better from my point of view.. I can buy an occasional issue of course. Don't know about MBY though - is it any good? Roy

Last month's MBM is well worth buying. Very fine Sea Ray sports boat covered as one of the "100 best secondhand boats"

Glad to have my judgement confirmed by such an august authority /forums/images/icons/smile.gif.

Primate Theme

JFM

I think you have misunderstood the editorial theme to this month's MBY. It has obviously been themed around primates.

You will also note the clear primate references to SWMBOs generally ('going ape') on page 28 column 3 ( obviously no reflection on the author). I also understand that at least one of the journalists, who writes twice this month, has been writing so long that he may in need have originally sailed on the Ark as a homo sapiens descendant, homo cumberlinius.

Wish it only took me 15 minutes to read! Must sign up for one of those speed-reading courses.

I like MBY. Nice mix of reality and fantasy. Cancelled my subscription for MBM though I'm afraid. A little too dull for my taste.

Thank you, Magnum! The staff of 12 people who work their bollox off every month to produce MBY will be heartened to know that there are a few of you out there that appreciate their efforts.

Re: December MBY and nordhavn

I still like it, will renew sub next year. Have not fully read the Dec issue yet. Have wasted an hour with Learner playing Where's Wally by email too!

The nordhaven solent pix were excellent Tom. Praps all boat tests need to be done in winter. I still cant agree with your testers though - much as I like the Nordhavn they say the insides have "real finesse and class" and "works brilliantly as party animal boat" and "excellent place" etc. Eh? The inside was awful. The layout is fine, but I'm sure that carpet came from my worst ever student bedsit flat, the battle ship grey leather is all wrong, why such ugly bar stools in the saloon, look at the leather ripples on the pilothouse bench and the barstool squab on page 64, ugh (but you say "beautifully finished" on p52), the bedrooms are just dull, it is all unbelievably horrible. What a shame. The boat doesn't want azimutty gliztzyness, but it needs better colours and workmanship than this. It has about the same internal appeal as a DSS waiting room.

Am I the only one who thinks this? I still think it's a fab boat, if they'd fix the insides

Also, why is the pic of the Sessa on p43 printed so small, dang?

Oi - don\'t rub it in

/forums/images/icons/blush.gifActually I had my passport but not my plane ticket. I blame jfm's hospitality - I was befuddled. Also only thought I had left camera but actually hadn't so the third Merc wasn't needed. I did manage to catch the right plane tho and get all the way to Valencia (via Barcelona). Unfortunately had spent all my Euros on damn taxis so couldn't buy any food/drink at Barcelona cos had left credit cards in check-in luggage. I really shouldn't be allowed out alone. /forums/images/icons/blush.gif

You sure it wasn't anything to do with the 7 bottles of rose we drank /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
