Hello.
Last year i bought a Deben 4 tonner and i would like to find out more about her and her history. Does the Deben Association still exist? I've searched the internet but found nothing. Can anyone help?

a friend has "Jubilee" based @ Ramsholt

Jubilee was in the Tide Mill last summer when Woodbridge (and many more places) had some sort of Heritage Day. All the old buildings were open FOC and there were loads of old boats about. Whistocks yard was open and a group of chaps sang sea shanties therein. I think there was a "For Sale" sign on Jubilee and I did not see her on her normal mooring for the rest of the season. Her owner could give a masterclass on boat handling.

Perhaps Peter Temple of Temple Marine Yacht Broker in the Tide Mill might know whether there is an active society. He does broker wooden boats. Otherwise it might be worth you having a weekend up the East Coast wandering around the marinas/boatyards as I am sure you would see more boats of that class together with their owners.

The Deben Association was formed in 1990 at one of the Shotley Festivals. It was running in 1995 but I do not know if it still is. I have got some info and possible contact names and addresses. Jubillee is not a Deben 4 tonner but a Deben Cherub, quite different. I am not sure if Brian has now sold her. "ddb" have sent you a PM.

There might be some confusion here.

The River Deben Association is a volunteer conservation group for the river and its estuary.

The body that you are after began life as the Deben Four Tonner Association but changed its name to the Maxwell Blake Association so as to admit owners of other boats designed by Blake (including my own "Mirelle").

Secretary was Louise Crich but have not heard from her for a bit - I was out of touch through working overseas.

i knew i had made a mistake soon after posting [ excuse end of the day /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif ]

Brian had her for sale having owned her for probably 20 yrs. she is a fine sight under sail & sailed very well [ often to the ferry for breakfast ].
he now " Walks" a lot Up t North

There's another 4 Tonner for sale at felixstoweferry, or there was last year. Very pretty and whenever i see them under sail, they look terrific. There's also a fantastically pretty boat for sale that looks not unlike them for size and beauty - is it a Johnson & Jago, i htink it was through Temple Marine. I'll see if i can post the picture.

We also bought a Deben 4 Tonner last year, gaff cutter rigged. There is a Whisstock website with a little information about some Deben 4 Tonners (www.whisstock.com/frameset_boats.html) although the site doesn't seem to be maintained any more.

I posted a little while ago about running backstays, would certainly be interested in getting in contact with any other owners particularly of gaff rigged ones.
