I put this post in the Motor Boat Forum although old wooden boats tend to cross party lines so you may wish to look. Post includes pictures. Same title.
Dertainly a "classic". I hate to see a vessel "die" like that. But what can be done about it? Just a look along the waterfront in Truro or Penryn or anywhere along the Helford/Fal rivers will find many in similar state. I'm sure this is the case all along the coast. What I can't understand is why the owners let them go this far! What happens, do they just loose interest, or they just get so bad the owners can't see anyway out? I aquired my boat because the owner wasn't interested and just left her to "die". But at least, in my case, she was an old fishing/work boat reached the end of her useful life. Luckily, I caught her just in time!
Some months ago I was contacted by a well known thames boatyard, they said I could have a boat for free if I took her away, I had expressed an interest in her future in their visitors book.
Sadly, having been in their yard for 15 years not under cover with the cabin roof chopped off the hull was in a dire state, after two visits and a long hard think I sadly had to tell them I could not take her on.
I beleive they cut her up.
A high speed French build motor boat of the mid 30's wasted for want of a decent tarp.
I suspect he's trying to get £x thousand for the hulk. There is the possiblility of course that Penryn could flog her for unpaid dues. I am going to ask and will post reponses, but not here, over on't original post.
