fantastic product, does exactly what it says and i was suprised at its effectivness on my 20 year old outboard that had stopped pumping water, this involved filling from the thermostat hole once the water intake had been sealed off.
I usually pickle the engine over the winter with a dilute solution of Sulphamic acid. Rydlyme suggests that it gets rid of lime and this therefore an acid, and could be phosphoric or hydrochloric - what does it say on the instructions?
Ideally you want a product which will interact and dissolve salts which are deposited from seawater, as part of the cooling process.. most are either chlorides or sulphates, and some are relatively insoluble in water.
The Perkins engine which I have recommends that the cooling water ina raw water engine is kept at 54 degrees C so that deposition of salts is prevented. At temperatures higher (say 70 degrees C, salts are deposited) as some salts are less soluble in hot water than warm. I hope there is no lime in your deposits!
