Day/Weekend sailing from Lisbon/Cascais?

Ahead of a potential move to Lisbon area of Portugal, I was wondering if anyone has experience of the Lisbon/Cascais area of Portugal?

Looking at places to go out for a day or weekend sail there don't seem to be many options!

Heading north, there seems to be no anchorage/marinas until at least Peniche which is about 70 miles, and heading south nothing until Sines which is probably also about 70 miles!

Can anyone with experience advise about sailing in this area and possible alternatives? Thanks!

Sesimbra is a beatiful small town, abt.20 nm southeast of Cascais. Our Imray guide indicated only casual guest berths, but this was no problem last summer.

Cascais was quite expensive, at least for visitors, but there is an anchorage outside. In Lisbon, beware of any berth near the Hummingbridge (25th April Bridge) - the noise is deafening. For day trips, you can go up and down the Tejo, plenty to see there, including Seixal. Sesimbra isn't too far, although it can take a while to escape the Rio Tejo if you start far up. Beware of sudden strong gusts coming off the mountains - had a horrible night at anchor at Sesimbra. Sines looks like an ugly oil refinery town from outside, but actually has a very quiet and lovely anchorage in the inner harbour off a clean beach. For weekend trips, round the corner to the Algarve. Much better sailing there - no Atlantic swell and decent wind offshore breeze much of the time. Anchor off Sagres, in Portimao, Alvor (shallow) or off Lagos in the right conditions. Or just base the boat there instead ;-)

From Lisbon you could go across the Rio and anchor off Seixal or go onto their pontoon.

To the north, the Berlenga Islands off Peniche are well worth a visit. South are Sesimbra, Arrabida & Troia, maybe Setubal as well.

Thanks for the info! All of those, except Seixal look a bit far for a weekend or day trip, but could easily be done in a week. I presume the "locals boats" mainly sail "out and back" to their home berth?
