Having trouble getting onto RYA's site for a couple of days so hope someone can help with this question.
Having trawled the net for a correspondence course for the day skipper theory I am confused about the syllabus.
Some sites quote prices including a "course completion certificate" with no mention of an exam and others mention a "certificate" after completing two examinations, which can be taken at home.
Can someone tell me exactly what constitutes a Day Skippers Theory Certificate?
Is there a certificate obtainable without taking an exam and one with?
What do I need to go on and do the practical course?
Thanks for any replies.

First you do the course. I did mine in deapest Lancashire run by local night school. At the end theres an exam. If you get one or two to many answers wrong. You just do them again. Or as we did. Beat the instrucror up! Then you get a certificate. Usualy you cant do the practical till you have the theory

No one can force me to come here-----------

Might I suggest that you obtain a copy of RYA publication G.15 The Cruising Log book. The answers to all your questions will be found therein.
The book is available from the RYA or from any half decent nautical bookshop.

If you do the course by correspondance, then you do the exam in the same way, and they have to trust you not to cheat ! (not that it would do you any good in the long term !). The exam will be sent to you at the end of the modules, you just do it, send it back to them, and with any luck you get a completion certificate within the week.
