I need someone with a day skipper ticket to act as a mate for a delivery trip from Plymouth to Hollyhead and then Hollyhead to Rhu in the Gareloch.

Ideally it will be someone who is serving in the Army, Navy or Airforce, but in extremis I can take a civilian.

The dates are Plymouth - Hollyhead 7 - 13 May and Holyhead to Rhu 13 - 20 May. Minimum personal contribution to food and expenses.

The boat is a well found Westerly Sealord (39'6") and I am a Yachtmaster Instructor and Yachtmaster Examiner. I have several other crew for each leg already, but to comply with regulations for the MOD then I need a minimum of Day Skipper on board as well.

Please note that this trip is advertised heavily in my unit and I will be phoning round MOD establishments tomorrow and serving people will take priority

Let me add a phrase, "I very much regret that serving applicants will take priority in order to comply with the rules laid down by the MOD." No sense of second class civi's - but I have to abide by the rules. I can only take a civilian if no service people are available.

And nobody is suggesting that you or anybody else is. The key phrase is "to comply with regulations for the MOD......."
The yacht is almost certainly either a Joint Services Sail Training Craft (funded by the MOD) OR an Establishment Yacht (funded privately but may have been part funded by a charitable trust).
Both categories of yacht have very strict rules on the usage of the yachts and the crew composition, designed to ensure that they are used by/for and serve the purpose that they were purchased for rather than turning into a private yacht funded by other peoples money.

Well, made me feel rather inadequate anyway. Must get out in the Sound early on the 7th and watch this departure to find out how it's done by the professionals.:D
You can come and watch me muck things up just as well as the next person if you want. Take pictures if you want. The RYA in their infinite wisdom appointed me as an examiner and all that means is that its really embarrassing when things go to rats.

I probably wouldn't know if you were doing anything wrong anyway. Haven't had my (first) yacht long and I find it difficult enough getting out through Sutton lock without a disaster happening, let alone anything else.:)

Anyway, good luck on your voyage. Hope all goes well for you.

I thought he had said it was his boat. Anyway even if it is, and the MOD is chartering it from him, I expect everything will have to be up to service standards.

He did indeed say it was his boat however that was in the other thread, which I hadn't read when I posted* the reply above that you've quoted. Probably need to be MCA coded, or to that standard since the MOD tend to follow existing regulations/rules nowadays.

* Note to self - Must scour all other fora before posting in case suitable response already posted on another thread:)

Correct - its needs to be up to standard as coded for the area of intended use. Ie for coastal coded to Cat 2. If it was for Ocean it would be coded Cat 0. Cat 0 means two life-rafts plus lots of other other bits and pieces - our boat is equipped for Cat 2.
