In the process of selling my raggie, which has scuppered our summer cruise. We've managed to borrow a place in Cannes and since sailing isn't up to much in SoF thought we would try a small motor boat eg. Jeanneau Cap Camarat type.

Does anyone know if you can hire out small boats by the day, and where we would do it from? We'll have a car.

No qualifications to my name although I've sailed for 30 years.

Thanks

You need a qualification if you want to charter any motor boat in France with (iirc) 10 hp or more. I think all that's required is a basic ICC, though someone will be along in a minute to say that an RYA issued ICC is only valid for UK registered craft, so strictly speaking you need the French equivalent /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

I suspect you won't find so many Peche Promenade type boats for charter in the SoF; sportsboats are more the thing down there.

Depends which end of Cannes, If you are down nearer La Napoule then Winner boats charter Jeanneau Caps and Leader for the day. If you are other end of Cannes then Ocean Nautique also do the same. There are a couple of charter companies in the main marina, haven't seen any in the old port. But both of the above have web sites if you search.

Yup, plenty available in Antibes, Golfe Juan etc. Max 6hp if you do not have ICC ("sans permis"). If you do have ICC, they'll give you a monster 200hp Yammy powered job!

6hp....could bring along the current tender on the roof rack which has 10hp!!

Seems the ICC is my biggest problem. Are they really thorough in making sure you have it? I've chartered in Croatia before, where they simply turned a blind eye.

Thanks, just what I was looking for.

Don't like the look of the san permis option, which suggests ICC is taken seriously. Leaving next week, which means I don't stand much chance of getting one either. Oh dear.

Can only comment re Antibes but you might give the hire boat service there a shot. I've had cause recently to use their boats quite a lot and i) have never been asked for an ICC ii) they never seem to ask anyone else either. I'm not suggesting that this is necessarilly right but some of their local advertising suggests that licences are not needed - on what basis i'm not sure. Hiring there also gives a rather nice perspective on the very large yachts on the IYCA quay

If i can assist further just ask

Regards

Paul

Thanks Paul,

I will give it a go. Would really make a difference if we could get out and about on a boat rather than watch everyone else boating. My new boat is in SBS so it won't be handed over until afterwards and I definitely need my boaty fix.
