I have a 1999 Sealine S24 and would like to put some davits on the swim platform for our dinghy. The main problem is the cover/flap over the boarding ladder. I don't know whether to use weaver snap davits or arms with pulleys. Has anyone who owns a 24 fitted any to their boat. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Peter

Alistairr will come to the rescue. He did this on his S24 last year or was planning to, snap davits are best with standoff arms, however rounded top half of transom requires a blank making. Alistairr will fill you in with his experiences,

Hi Peter,

Yes, i went through all this last year, but sad too say because of unexpected family problems, i never got too buying the things.

You will see by the pic below, this boat i photograghed last year has Weaver snap davits and standoff arms on it, i think its the only option, cause as yo say the ladder cover would interfere with any Davit arms with pulleys, also i believe the boat is too small for that sort of set-up.

The problem with fitting standard davits is the shape of the stern of the platform, its quite rounded, and requires a special davit too be made, the same as in the second pic.

I spoke to Sealine, and they used to make them, but no longer do, you might get a different answer so give them a go. Maybe they would make them for 2 sets!
I then sent an E-mail to Weaver industries, and got a lovely reply from Virginia Weaver. She said there would be no problem them making them the same as in the pics, $50 on top standard price, I was happy with that, and all i had to do was take a cardboard template of the stern so as they had a shape to make it too and send it off too them, unfortunately we never made it back up too the boat after that last year.
But i do plan on taking that route this year, as we feel with a little one on board its a must too take an inflated dinghy everwhere with us for safety reasons.
The Sealine option would be easier and cheaper probably, best if you phone them, and if you get anywhere with them, please let me know, i'll definately take a set!!!

Good luck and keep me posted.

Cheers
Al.

Peter, I have an S24 with Weaver snap davits and stand off arms exactly as in Alisatarr's photo. Works well, only obvious problem being you can't get to the ladder with the boat in place. Also outboard storage on-board a pain as none of the usual brackets fit the cockpit rail.

I have a new dinghy for this season and am trying to find the Weaver pads and hooks to go on it for a reasoanble price.

Peter - they came fitted but are standard Weaver products. These guys have the best prices I've come across for pads and brackets, don't know about the kits: Quay West

One other thing - the stand-off arms are available in a range of lengths and I can't remember the length I have fitted, though I think they're 24", but maybe 30"

The davits are standard Weaver products, but are specially adapted to suit the curvature if the S24's swim platform, as you can see in the second pic.

Standard Davits start off like this:

Yes; although I can't quite visualise the side profile of my davits, mine must be modified like yours. So, not quite a standard davit after all /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Not mine yet, thats what the post is all about, Barcobird and i are trying our hardest to buy a pair each!!!!! With not mch success i may add!!!!

Cheers anyway.

Alistair.

BTW, wanna take your off, and sell em to me?? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

just to avoid confusion there are 2 stardards I believe - one flat as shown and the other with a 10mm 90 degree lip

either way for the transom indicated you are better off with a custom built job as show then making up a seperate mounting block.

Have re-read your post properly this time. I'll keep my eyes open and let you & barcobird know if I see any.

Sell mine - never! - just bought a new tender /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Cheers

Polymarine have been very helpfull and sent me a catologue of all the davits weaver do. One of them may be of interest and would solve the problem with deep curved swim platform. However for me I think they are a little obtrusive and would prefer to go down the route of standard davits modified as per the previous pictures.
If I come across any on my travels I will post it straight away. Until then I have got a pain in the arse dinghy to contend with. [image]http://[/image]

Hi Scubadoo,
If you follow the thread, that is the course I have ended up taking.
I purchased an unused set of davits off ebay and they are being modified by a local welder at the moment. Fingers crossed.
If you have a look on ebay there is a new set on at the moment ViewItem 4641164556
Hope that helps and good luck.

Peter,

While i n the engineers hands you might ask him to drill a hole through the rod that the slide slips back on - nice 7mm one should do. Right behind the slide. Then you can slip a little padlock through and it prevents the slide being opened - the rod doesn't take any loading.
