Davit help required

I think I might be thick here but I can't get the extensions on the davits to lock with the turn screw on the underside. The s/s extensions just pull completly out no matter how tight the screw is turner. I think the tendor pressing up against them would hold them in place but if the tendor is away they will fall out and be lost for good.Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong or is there a part missing? Really confused. They are stainless steel box sections with an internal extension arms and winch on both sides. Any help would be very appreciated. If a part is missing where can I get them from? Chandlers have no idea what I'm talking about.

Suggest that you put a (stainless) washer on the thread of the knurled screw, this will help it to clamp.

Do you mean on the outside or inside of the davit I presume the outside?

I will try this tomorrow but it's not more grip I need I don't have any at all.
