Date 7–12 December 1942

I had never thought of the time of year that Operation Frankton was carried out before. I realise that the long nights would have helped there paddling up the river but the cold must have been debilitating. I spent Wednesday on my unheated damp boat as masts were scheduled to be taken down early on Thursday morning. Lying on my damp mattress under my damp sleeping bag as all the water content in the boat froze, I was miserable. I can't imagine what it would have been like to do it night after night while evading the Germans and without the protection of a little bit of fibreglass to keep the snow and ice off you. I think the two who died from hypothermia are now beginning to make sense.

A truly Super Human effort.

Yes. Nice to be reminded about true hero"s.

I slept on my boat last Wednesday night ... electric blanket ... electric heater ... still didn't want to get out of bed to pee. (I did though )
