VP triple. Had alternater checked and good. This is a fault that doesnt fry the alternator when running. Does this give a clue to where fault lies?

Pretty vague information to go on.

I'll take a shot at it anyway, check the connections to the alternator, especially the negative. Check the negative connection to the engine block too, if it has one.

What engine and more importantly what type of panel are we talking about? Old type keyless panel or new fangled 4 button panel with MDI system?

Old type has a latching button. If not releasing to turn power off I guess its just stuck .... may be a new button switch will be needed

If the new type then I think all buttons function by closing to battery negative so if others work more likely to be a panel or button fault than a general bad negative connection

You seem to think a switch is sticking, i read the OP as the ignition light isn't going out with the engine running, which is why he would have had the alternator tested.

I reckon you are right .. Penny did not drop last night

You haven't actually described what the fault is, yet.

He sort of has
PR has guessed it......... the panel warning lights stay on

Volvo 2030 keyless. Have just cleaned all relevantconnections. Fire up and oil pressure lt goes off, but temp and charging lts remain on.

If the charging and temperature warning lights stay on the alternator is not charging..... but we know the alternator is OK

B series engines, and later have an excitation resistor. Maybe a bad connection in the wiring to this. Red/black wire from panel, via pins #3 in the wiring harness, to the resistor, and then to the Alternator D+ terminsl. (Brown wire from warning light on this terminal too.)

???? See what PR thinks.
