Darwin award 2012

they were are really good friends by the look of it Lisa so doubt they'll have fallen out over this little mishap :)

Ha! What surprised me was it took several minutes before someone even thought to cut the engine. Up to that point, I assumed the guy must have been wearing a kill chord. Clearly not.

The lesson? How about awareness of what dangerous toys speedboats can be. Apart from the apparent lack of a kill cord I'd say it seems the peeps on board were innocent. Just shows how quickly things on board can change - for the worse.

They were incredibly lucky the helms hands jerked the throttles back by accident when his body was flung sideways. It's criminal not wearing a kill cord on a boat that fast. Also very lucky there were no serious head injuries.

In the UK, that would be a "racing" boat, and the people on board would have helmets and all the gear.
A Fountain 38 with massive petrol engines just isn't used as a leisure boat by any significant number of boaters in the UK.
When's the last time you were passed by a boat doing 70-80kts?

did anyone even notice that this is in a river , if that boat had kept going it would have hit land before they even got there asses of the floor !!

I must disagree on that.
The helmsman is 100% responsible for what happened, and he could and should have avoided it.
Otoh, he's probably the one who got nearer to loose much more than just his pride.
At 2:20, his head misses the (pretty strong) steel handrail just by an inch or so...
