I'm thinking of taking the boat to Dartmouth at the weekend with a view to dumping it there for a few days and returning home by train.

Can anyone tell me if the main line station at Paignton is part of the Dartmouth-Paignton station or will I have to go half way across town to get from one station to the other?

It's years since I was there and I just can't remember /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Think it still joins at Paignton station, then the normal train runs to the main line to meets at Newton Abbot.

You can get a steam train from the Kingware station to Paignton.
At Paignton station you can change on a normal train.
You just need to come out of the Dart Valley side of the station and over the level crossing to the what I would call BR side.

We have used this to get crew to Dartmouth.
The Steam trains run about once an hour from around 10:00 to 18:00

The Paignton to Kingswear railway is known as the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway The station at Paignton is about 200 yards or so from the mainline staion as far as I can discover the website is HERE

The Dart Valley railway is between Totnes and Buckfastleigh and is I think known as the Primrose Line although I think both belong to the same company.

You really should learn to find these things for yourself with Google.

Thanks folks, that's helpful. The connection I need only allows a couple of minutes. So long as the train from Kingswear is on time we'll be OK.

I must use Google in future.

You are not alone!

Perhaps the Sea Wych Owners' Association could afford an apostrophe?

[/ QUOTE ] That's an interesting point. I have always regarded it as an association of Seawych owners rather than an association belonging to the Seawych owners, especially as membership is not actually limited to Seawych owners

The Westerly owners however do clearly regard the Westerly Owners' Association differently.

The two I know of which are, IMO, wrong are the Eventide Owner's Group
and the Silhouette Owner's International Association, as I am sure there is more than one member in each.

Perhaps if I have nothing better to do I will write to the secretary of the SWOA and also ask for advice on Englishforums.com

Anyway apologies to Tisme for being so grumpy earlier. I fear I broke my rule of always pausing in preview mode and asking myself, "Do I really want to say this?" I'll break the rule again and post this anyway. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Met my partner there last year, just cross from one side to tother and bobs yer uncle. Takes about 30 seconds.

Their eyes met across a crowded platform - so romantic... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you leave your boat at Darthaven you have hit the jackpot, otherwise get a water taxi accross to Darthaven marina, the station is adjacent, though a couple of hundred yards to walk to the platform.

The steam train runs regularly, you might even get to ride in Annie or Clarabelle pulled by Thomas if you are lucky. The Paignton end is also immediately adjacent to the main network station, just walk to the end of the platform, out, then double back in to catch a real train.

Of all the times we have had to use public transport to get back to a car once the boat had arrived elswhere, getting back to Exmouth from Kingsweir was the easiest (even though I didn't realise I could have got off at Starcross and taken a ferry straight into Exmouth dock, I carried on to Exmouth itself, but them had a walk down to the dock).

As previously stated the train does go to Paignton railway station, also there's a regular bus service from Kingswear, from the banjo (just above the marina) to Paignton bus station, which is just opposite Paignton railway station.
