Damage to the hull....

Evening all. After having another look at the boat I saw last week (see previous post.....) I have inspected the hull a lot more carefully today. I can see a crack/split about 2' under the water line, I would assume it goes all the way through the hull. The length of it is about 30" (2 and a half feet) in a wavy sort of patern - not a straight line split. Also remember the fore mentioned damage. The thing is cheap (£300 ono) so I dont mind spending a bit of money at it or should I forget it and move on and look for another boat. Answers please -
 
we had a jack go through the bottom of our Pilot 590, causing a hole and a split, took a hack saw to the split and opened it up to firm glass then laminated on the inside, and finished off outside with filler, no problem
 
£300 to fix the hull doesn't sound over the top nor cheap, but get some other quotes. You may find that if you employ a good surveyor he should be able to advise you on the feasability of a repair, you may also find that by the time he finishes you could have found thousands of pounds of other work to be done, good luck /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

It doesn't matter if he's buying it for fishing or not, it is still his life that could be at risk, still better to get a proper survey done /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Don’t bother with a survey; it will cost more than the boat. Buy it, working with fibreglass is child’s play, it will be a good learning experience for you which will not break the bank.
