Hi,
Spent three weeks painting our old faithful boat after 2 year trip down to NZ and chuffed with result. Proudly put her back onto the mooring and returned a week later to find some fine and upstanding character had hit our transom and damaged the starboard quarter down to the grp itself. The note that they left seems to have been blown away with the only consolation being that a substantial amount of their gelcoat was left on our hydrovane. Gutted about it but am in recovery. Would very much appreciate ideas on how to get a good finish while understanding that there will be limitations. The good news is the area of damage is small as they hit us on the corner. The paint is awlcraft (2 part). Filling and fairing is no problem but how to get the final finish. Any help very welcome......first time on the net for 2 years and already asking for help - sorry.

Is the area you were moored at covered by any webcams?, this was very usefull when other boats hit mine whilst moored.
On the subject of the paint, i also have had a few scrapes on the awlgrip, the only thing i found was to do a touch up job by mixing a small amount of paint and using small brushes or even cocktail sticks to put the paint into the scratches. If yours is badly damaged then it would have to be painted in the same way it was applied by you.

awlgrip repairs can be extremely sucessful after the fill & fare, dont try to paint to the edge of the rubbed down bit , but rub down the repaired day cured paint with 12000 wet, wet& dry & polish it in. power polisher essential. Spray gear not a problem as you can do suprisingly large areas with a modelers air bush, which has the advantage of putting very thin coats.

We have awlgrip on 16mtr steel MY & I have done it many times, as an example the bow gets scratched, damaged by anchor & chain. worst case took back to metal on a wind against tide day once, nevermind the usual, anchor "bongs"
