I will be meeting my son at Dalaman airport in July and would like to anchor as close as possible.
I know the end of the runway is close to coast but have not anchored here and all charts and pilot books are on the boat; has anyone done a crew change from here? Google Earth shows a small dinghy landing but its an exposed beach and I don't know if you can access the arrivals area from here.
The anchorages to the south of Gocek are further away but are there better chances of getting a taxi/bus from here?
I have a decent tender and outboard.
Thanks
Dave

Some years ago, anchored in Göcek. Some small yacht enters the bay, sailing. Since it is rare to see someone anchoring under sail, he had my attention. It was a small, old scruffy yacht, the sun awning made out of thick bamboo rods. He inflated a dingy, rowed over to us. Very thin, long hair, a small dog. He had to keep pumping cos the dingy leaked air.
We had a chat, and after I was convinced they had no fleas I invited them on board for a glass of red. Short story . Left home age 16, worked in Spain, circled the world in his little boat. He has an nice web site, ( http://www.nuriadevilanova.com/index2.html ) He is Dutch but the site is in Spanish. El Holandés errante, de Calafell.
He asked the same question, had to deliver a friend to Dalaman airport. No money, illegal, ( No money for transitlog. ) He came out the Red sea, had some interesting encounters with pirates, they gave him food and water. ( See website )
Anyway, I told him to sail to Sarsala bay, walk up the gravel trail to Dalaman. No prob, I had done it more than once, within 5 minutes a car would stop and take him to the airport.
Now, that is what happened to me. I met him a week later, heard his story. He sailed to Sarsala and he and his friend ( Loaded with a huge rug sack ) started walking the hill to Dalaman. No car took them to Dalaman, the Turks must have been afraid of those two weardows. It is rough, steep, hot and further as it looks in Google Earth. He had no shoes, Had not needed any the last 8 years. Furthermore they had to run the last couple of miles, had not anticipated half a day march in that heat. Me and my advice are mentioned in his blog- site.

Thanks for the info. Will have the two anchorages and taxi numbers as back up. There appears to be a creek that runs in toward the airport from the southern coast may give this a look and then walk to the arrivals area.
Cheers
Dave

I am pretty sure the south coast at Dalaman is not a good idea. The coast is to exposed and the way to the entrance full of obstacles.
Once I took a minibus ( Dolmus ) from Göcek to Dalaman centre and than walked the rest to the airport. I had a kick scooter for adults so was fast. The word is one can not go to the airport without a taxi, way to far. Proved to be an lie. Turkey is a police state. All around the airport are watchtowers with armed soldiers. Could see that they followed me with interest. Because the roller is unknown in Turkey ( Now it is, for kids ) I folded it together and slung it over my shoulder some half mile before the main gate. Walked to the gate, funny, nobody within sight. Arriving at the watch house, a bunch of soldiers jumped out of cover pointing guns at me. After a lot of shouting it became clear they thought I carried a gun over my shoulder. The “Boss” asked me what I wanted. Said wanted to collect my wife from the airport. Astonished looks, I had to take a taxi, entrance at foot was not allowed, and where was my passaporte ?
Now I was in trouble, passport on the yacht, me illegal as usual, so I started making a lot of noise about not willing to take a cab. The taximafia is very powerful in Turkey, prices are way to high, Two short rides are good for a month salary of Mr average.
In those days, a foreign tourist was a God, so after some muttering they let me pass. We took a cab back.

Thank you 'Oldbawley'. Having flown into DLM several times and never seen a pedestrian around the wider airport concourse I had suspected that it may be difficult to gain access if I turn up on foot. On reflection, perhaps following the creek in my inflatable from the sea to the airport perimeter at dusk may be viewed as a little suspicious!!
Guess I'l have to go with the taxi idea
Cheers for the info!
