What started out as a rather mad idea in an Edinburgh pub amongst a group of sailors having a pre Christmas drink is now becoming reality!
We set off tomorrow from the West Coast of Scotland to Castlebay on Barra and from there to Rockall with the plan being to finish the voyage in Stornoway. It should be a round trip of about 500 nms, Castlebay to Stornoway leaving Barra Head, Rockall and the Butt of Lewis to Starboard.
The forecast is looking good so it may even be possible to land. One of our crew is a climber and is keen to try an ascent.
(if you are unsure about where Rockall is then look for a pin prick on the chart about 225 nms west of the Hebrides)
Three men and one woman on a 1973 Rival 34. Hopefully in the company of some other Rivals. Two more for certain, hopefully more.
We have so far received very generous donations of £483.00 which, other than a small charge made by "Just Giving" will all go directly to the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust.
Should you wish to find out more about our voyage and the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, and should you wish to make a donation then please click here https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/paultaylorrrrr
I would like to thank those users of this forum who have been so kind as to donate already.
