D4 engines - especially the 225Hp

Anything horrid to look out for.

10 years old now - I am aware of the early injector issues, drive ram seals issue in the legs and perishable steering hoses. Anything else?

You have already mentioned pretty much all of the faults that have been commonly aired on fora. The only other one I can think of was to do with the nibral props on the dph drives. There were issues with pitting/corrosion I believe but suspect any faulty props would have been changed by now.

I guess for of an insiders view you need the likes of Volvo Paul or Spannerman to chip in.

Check the plastic end cover on the intercooler and the oil cooler for white salt stains indicating leakage which can be expensive if not fixed as the salt water drips onto the starter motor and in the worst case causes a short in the main engine harness. This is engine out to replace as it goes under engine to various sensors that are difficult to get to, the only solution is to replace the covers and O rings as they deform and leak. The intercooler end cover is on the port side just aft of the oil filters and facing forward, and the oil cooler is below the oil filter table facing aft, the two plastic covers are linked by a water hose.
The other thing is to check the belt tensioner wheels as the early ones were plastic and cracked, they have been replaced by steel ones.
Also see if the seawater strainers have been upgraded to the ones with a glass top. Otherwise no real problems now with these engines.
