Hi chaps.
I have got a problem with my Eberspacher heater. It all fires up OK and runs for about 15 minutes but it then goes into cool mode blowing just lukewarm air. By the time it decides to come back on, we are all frozen /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

If i switch it off manually then back on, it runs OK for another 10 minutes but doesn't seem to reach its peek heating output.

It is fitted with the standard on/off switch which i think is also the low/med/high temp control.

I'm suspecting the temp control unit is faulty but wondered if anyone else has come up against this.

Any help/advice appreciated.

Is it a recent problem, ie has it just started this bad behavoir!!
If so then have you done/moved/changed anything?
It sounds as if the thermostat thinks it has reached the required temperature, where is the thermo situated/ is it remote from the unit? Could the unit be getting too hot, is it in a small space? I'm not sure from your description just what sort of control set up you have.

check to see if you have enough voltage as the eibers dont like low voltage to run on they turn off as the plug takes a lot while glowing....... good luck

"By the time it decides to come back on, we are all frozen"
this means that it is cycling if you leave it alone? does it reheat if you dont touch it?, if so it is the temp control inside the machine. if it was lo voltage or no fuel it would stop altogether.

Thanks for the feedback chaps.
I'll try to explain it a bit better.

The heater works perfect for around 15-20 minutes, then it slows down as the cabin heat level rises. It then purrs away slowly until the heat level decreases, firing itself up again to bring the temp back up to the correct thermostat setting. However, the time between running at slow speed, then back to peek speed is far too long, by the time it get itself going again the cabin has gone cold. Sometimes it does not recycle at all and simply switch off.
It will only come back on if i turn it off then on again by the control knob.

It's a bog standard controller.

hi micky has this system ever worked ? this type of heater has a temp sensor on the intake inside the unit so the heater must pull cabin air for this to work IF the heater is pulling air from a differant place an exsternal sensor should be fitted to the coldest part of the cabin thats why i ask has it ever worked because the main problem with eberspacher is poor installation boat builders are the worst !!!!

Had exactly this fault on mine last year, just a few months after it was installed.

In the end, under warranty, they came out and changed the control board in the heater. This was diagnosed by 'gut feel and experience', but it seemed to solve it.

Hi Dave.
Yes it was working OK last winter. The Unit is mounted inside a large outside cockpit locker. 1 metre of heating duct pipe runs into the cabin area. The small air intake is pulling in cold air from the cockpit area which is unheated.
I was wondering if the unit was getting too hot in the locker, so opened the locker door but it makes no difference.

Could it be that it's not yet cold enough to run the heater? maybe i need to wait until winter.
