In the winter post service the stbd engine was running warm. Bits of impeller in heat exchanger. Ran much cooler. Little warmer than port.

Today long ish trip. At 24 knots port 79 degrees stbd 86.

Down to 20. 79 /83.

The stbd engine has water heater on it

There is a small amount of steam. Very small

I looked up the normal operating temps. This is hard to find but the rough concensus seems to be 85 ish and no more than 95.

The temps as as reported by the plotter connected to engines.

I will check impeller tomorrow am but it has been suggested just ignore. It’s not that hot.

What do others see on d12 715 on please ?

It did occur to me that that port could be running cool not the stbd hot, and even then the stbd is within limits.

Possibles are blocked exchanger ( was acid cleaned last year ) or thermostat or nothing

Have a look on marine parts europe website for the thermostat for your model engine (usually found in the cooling system/thermostat housing section of the parts lists), that should tell you the opening temperature of the stat which usually corresponds very closely with the operating temp of the engine. Eg if its an 86 deg stat then the operating temp will be 86 deg.

It is possible that (incorrectly) one engine has a 79 deg stat and the other an 86 deg stat , can you take the stats out and have a look at them? The temp is usually stamped on the edge of them.

Or it could be due to a faulty stat.

Infro red heat gun them first , was gonna say £10 from Maplins - but they are in the growing U.K. high street bust group.
79 sounds cool .
Thermo senor usually near the thermostats.Any way any where to compare a pair to start with .eg try oil temps while you are at it = the gun the oil filters
Mine started at 86 in ear,y May now 30 hrs later down to 84 despite warmer sea temps recently.
Drops to 82 in the marina .
Not D12 . But not dissimilar.

Brilliant thx. Looked and there are 2 depending on engine model which I will check in morning. 76 and 82. This seems to be the start opening temp as I found a spec sheet saying start open at 76 fully open at 86 which of course is the max temp I am seeing

Will try to find the thermostat tomorrow and then take a look.

Thx

Spoke to boats.co.uk. Hey said when impeller bits removed were quite calcified.

Remove anode have a look. Bad. Only done last year

Remove other anode make up plumbing fitting. Have pump. Euro 3 of aqua fuerte later all clean. Won’t ru it for a few weeks now but assume will sort it
