I’m finally getting around to replacing a corroded engine mount. If I can just support the weight of the engine, I think the old starboard side front mount can be be easily slid out and replaced with the new one. However I am not sure where I can best support the engine. A cross beam across the companionway isn’t that a good a solution as the companionway steps are in the way and the eye is in any case towards the rear of the engine. A lifting strop at the front is awkward because of the alternator though I suppose I could remove this. Would timber wedges below the sump work or is there a risk of cracking it?

I supported my md22 on wedges under the cast aluminium sump, no issues

What a load of fairies :)

I fitted four new mountings to a D1-30 in a Westerly Fulmar earlier this year, if you get a mate to swap the mounting you can easily lift the engine by hand. Best to take the top nut off of the other front mounting and lift the whole front of the engine.

It’s a saildrive. As pvb says the engine isn’t that heavy but ....? I was thinking I could weld up a bracket that sits on the bed just in front of the front mounts with arms projecting across to the engine supports. Bolts through the ends of the arms could then be tightened vertically, to support the engine. However it seems a bit of a faff if timber wedges under the sump would do the job.

I did ours with just a medium jemmy bar as a lever and a bit of wood, did all four on my own in ten minutes, as said engines not as heavy as you think

One other thing. Though It is only the front starboard mount that is corroded is it best to replace the port side at the same time so they are a matched pair? Presumably they tend to compress after time but they are £60 a pop.
