As you may have seen from another post of mine we are considering replacing our VP 2003 saildrive.
If we were to replace then the straight swap would appear to be the D1-30, but should we consider going up to a D2-40?
The boat is a Scanmar 35, displacing 10582 lbs./ 4800 kgs.
Link to her details here http://sailboatdata.com/viewrecord.asp?class_id=1308

From researching it would appear to be a trade off between having the comfort factor of the extra HP if pushing swell / wind / tide etc versus the risk to the engine that it may be under utilised most of the time.
Of course there is also the internal space / beds / access question to consider.
Thanks

No. For that displacement the 30 is fine. I have a 2030 in a 5700 kg boat and plenty of power to cruise at 5 5 knots and achieve maximum hull speed. You will find the 40 hp as an option on boats displacing around 6000 kg And standard at 7000 kg+.
