I had a D270 with a 4 hp and it got on the plane no problem with myself and as long as it was calm myself and my daughter (only aged 2-3 then).

I had a D300 some years ago with a 9.9hp motor and it would just about get the boat + 2 adults onto the plane (if one moves their weight to the bow) but forget about towing water toys or a skier

Very similar scenario with our 8hp Yamaha on a 2.7m Arimar RIB, except once on the plane normal positions could be resumed.

A bit of a diversion here but when I was about 9 (many years ago!) my family had an Astra inflatable with an 8.5 HP outboard, and my sister and I used to ski behind it with the other one driving. Getting up was an art, the driver had to give it full throttle, then let go of the engine and move to the very front of the boat and lean forward to get it on the plane. Meanwhile the skier was also pulling and heaving like mad to get on the plane. But it worked. OK so once up the water level was a little higher around the skis than one might ideally have liked, but hey it was fun and since then anything with 40+ hp was pure luxury!
