Cyclone Ita warning:
TROPICAL CYCLONE ADVICE NUMBER 27
Issued at 4:54 pm EST on Friday 11 April 2014

A Cyclone WARNING is current for coastal areas from Coen to Innisfail including
Cooktown, Port Douglas and Cairns, and extending inland to areas including
Kalinga, Palmerville, Mareeba and Chillagoe.

Now a category 5 and due to cross the coast North of Cairn around midnight tonight.
Marinas have advised all craft to get out of the marina and into the creeks in Trinity inlet.

Hoping we fair a little better this time and don't have to go looking for cat again (42 footer) when the all clear is given.

I do I have good luck and fair winds this time around.

Hi Brian I have been thinking of you today as the TV reports crank up with forecast 150knots of wind fortunately well north of you. But hang onto your hat and best wishes for a succesful outcome for the cat. olewill

Hi Will, some ood news from the met' office,

The outer edge of category-four Cyclone Ita has made landfall on the far north Queensland coast, and is now less than 80 kilometres north-north-east of Cooktown.

(Quote)The weather bureau says the storm is low in the category-four scale and is losing strength as it hits land.

The cyclone has destructive winds of 230 kilometres per hour near its core and gales of 185 kilometres per hour will extend inland.(end Quote).

With any luck the high ranges and Rain Forrest will slow this thing a lot, Als with the sunset now passed it lessen the warm air it needs to grow.

Wind in Cairns at a bit over 30 at the moment, so problems yet, monitoring the tidal buoys for an indication of the predicted tidal surge.

Starting to look a little better than last time already.

Looks like all the good luck messages are working. The Cyclone crossed the coat about 350 km north of Cairns and has been getting weaker, now a category 2.

Prediction is for 100 KPH winds in Cairns around noon today and we can handle that. Tide running out at the moment (wind against tide) so confused sea state but should all line up nicely by noon.

Good luck and fair wind on the way.

Well the 100 KPH wind arrived a bit later than the noon time given by the met office, but there no mention of the 4 metre swells that arrived in a matter of minutes.

Dragged the 2+ tonne mooring block about 250 metres before the boat relocated to another mooring well down the inlet in flat water.

Amazed there was no damage, had a long bridle attached to both bow cleats and another line back to the mast, just as well in hind site.

The Cyclone is now only a category One but is located just 30 km off Cairns.

Talk about good luck and fair winds!!!!

Final up date.

Cyclone Ita is now a category one and sitting about 120 Km off the coast at Mackay in Queensland, still heading South East and predicted to reform off shore.

Just a bit of wind and a lot of heavy rain in Mackay. So far enough South not to have any further effect on us.
