A port city north of here has just had a cyclone pass by. 100km away up the coast. The town is Port Hedland known to some as a major Iron ore exporting port. I was intrigued that the town was in lockdown ie no one allowed on the streets for 36 hrs winds in the range about 165kmh and 1 metre of rain dumped in 24hrs. Final report no significant damage. This kind of thing happens every few years so it just goes to show what good preparation can produce. They had about 3 days warning. I did wonder about the dozen or so super ore carriers that had to go to sea to ride out the cyclone. Must have been fun (not) olewill
