Give Mikonos a miss?

Personally I'd avoid Mikonos again. The harbour was unpleasant - apart from the swell and the concrete "dragons' teeth", we had a large commercial vessel laying its anchor on top of ours, so there was the potential hazard of ours being lifted out.

However, I believe that there may have been a marina or small boat harbour built since our visit (slightly to the north?).

But also, the charm of the island has IMHO been lost owing to the sheer volume of visiting tourists (of which we were part).

We enjoyed the smaller quieter islands, but of the larger ones, felt Siros well worth the visit. This is the main island of the Cyclades and Ermoupolis is a busy port. But the town is very interesting with a lot of Italian influence. While there we had a quick look at the fabulous opera house - apparently a scaled down version of La Scala -that was being renovated. It's probably finished by now. Also some interesting markets.

Four weeks? Should be a fantastic holiday.

Posted a reply to the Cyclades question in the Liveaboard Link before I read your post. You'll see Ermoupolis is on my 'yes' list and Mykonos on the 'nos' as well!!
