Fellow salties,
Looking at buying a Cyclades 393( non charter) to sail in my home waters Malta. Looking ofr a comfortable cruiser for a growing family with an emphasis on safety and comfort more than performance ( altough a good turn of speed would'nt go amiss) Any feedback on this boat ( how she sails, berths etc) would be really appreciatted before I make up my mind.

Hello,

I have the 433 Cyclades and it is a brilliant sail boat. Strong, sturdy, well put together and incredibly safe. Handles a F8 no problem. May not be the fastest but mine has come 2nd in class twice in the Gib national Regatta. Layout down below great. All berths good size and if they have the sprung slats are very comfy. Heads are a great size as well. For Value for money I give them a 9/10.

I have a high spec with inmast furling, Raymarine E120kit etc and appreciate her the more for it. All the opening ports also work well in the Med.

Happy to anwer specifics.

Thanks paul
Read a lot of negative comments how the Cyclades is the poor cousin to the oceanis, and how benetau go away with bad workmanship and low quality with the Cyclades. Is this exaggerated in your opinion?

Completely. The workmanship is just the same as is the kit. The difference was in the Fit out which was modular and cheaper (makes it easier to keep clean though). We have had no problems except with the Volvo engine. Ours was lightly chartered for 2 seasons before we got her. Solid as a rock, ours sails around the straits of gibraltar in some bad weather frequently. nothing ever let us down and she is sinmply set up, easy to sail as well. We have the 3 cabin version which gives a lot more storage space....

Later Cyclades (Sunsail and Moorings Charter Versions) may seem to suffer from poor build quality but that is just a reflection of 5 years of Charter.

The 43.3 does sail well though..

A word of advice. Don't take too much notice of negative comments on certain boats, as there are are lot of people around that just hate anything modern and will take every opportunity to spread misinformation. In their world, Modern = bad design, bad build, will kill you as soon as you leave the marina. Old = brilliant design, last forever build quality, character and will of course cross every ocean in every weather.

AFAIK the Cyclades 393 is a perfectly decent bit of kit and if you like it, buy it - assuming everything stacks up i.e. money, kit, condition etc...

AFAIK the Cyclades range was just a normal Benny, built to satisfy specific needs of charter companies, which basically meant they were all the same (no options) and fitted out for easy maintenance. I have never heard of any problems with them and any I have been on have been very nice.
