It also made headline news on TV here in Oz, What a crying shame, I do hope this was not an act of some moron.

When I was last in London we managed to have a good look over her, I also recall Chichester's yacht was close by, did it suffer any damage?

Another great piece of history lost forever.

Cutty Sark - gutted

The ship isn't, but I was when I heard.

I think she was pretty well stripped out but there is extensive damage to the decks. I'm sure it is recoverable.

Chichesters yacht has long since been restored and has been round the world (with S/S Island shipwreck and recovery) since she was removed from her concrete pen.

In fact there is an entire forum devoted to this, near the bottom of the forum index, see Gypsy Moth IV Around Again.

Re: Cutty Sark - gutted

Both BBC Scotland and STV news were quick to point out that Cutty Sark has, and will now attract more millions of £ for refurbishment, whilst a very similar ship at the Scottish Maritime Museum is quietly rotting away without a penny of public money on offer, and will soon be broken up.

Read that Sunderland are looking into bring it back to there for restoration.
You would have thought the Scottish Maritime Museum could have raised a bit of dosh !. Though one article did intermate that it was due to it being an English boat.
