The Best blades I have found for GRP cutting are those intended for cutting stainless steel. Used at a relativly low speed in a jig saw. The saw I use was £14. Performance Power from B&Q on the basis that if the dust destroyed it it was no great loss. However this has now cut out all my Wheel house and Cabin windows as well as access for cockpit lockers, all the internal Plywood work and had lots of use at home.
The blades for SS I have only found in good Engineering Tool stores, but they are brilliant. One blade made all the cut outs for the wheel house windows then shortened so as to use a fresh part of the blade cut out all the cabin windows and cockpit lockers.
I use the 'wavey' blades with very small teeth and find this does not Chip the surace. CUT SLOWLY is the key, otherwise the heat destroys the temper of the blade, this also keeps airborne dust to a minimum.
PS they are also usefull for cutting SS.

Good luck with your task.

Grandad,
I found your reply to the post very useful. Do you have any further info regarding the name/type of the blades that you used. I live in Italy and would like to be able to purchase a similar type of blade for my jig saw, but can already imagine the reply from my local hardware store ..... "blades for sutting SS with a jig saw? they don't exist" accompanied by lots of arm waving (Italian!!). So, if there was a technical term for the type of blade then I might be in with a chance of finding them.

Thanks in anticipation of any help.

Alan

Alan.
Many years now since I got these blades, shows how long they last.
I believe they where by BOSCH, but not aware of any other detail at present but will try to get more info for you over the next few days.
Regards.

the best jigsaw blades are bimetallic metal-cutting blades (hardened steel tips for long life, softer steel blade so they aren't brittle).

i get mine by mail order (www.screwfix.com) and they typically cut 50-100metres of grp before they wear out.
