cutter yachts: their interiors around 1905-1910

Hi there,
can anybody tell me how the interior of a cutter yacht around 1905-1910 looked like? I have an cutter yacht built in 1908 and I have my doubts if she still has her original interior. Did these interiors follow a certain style, trend at the time? Looking forward to many pics! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Basically, a lot of panelled wood, either varnished or white, with everything in brass. Catalogs: google either Classic Marine, Colin Frake, Davey and Co (will send you a catalog for £3) or Toplicht in germany. I'm sure there are others. Go through the sites, see what you want and how much you want to pay.

I've found that too much varnished wood in a small space feels a bit claustrophobic, but very nice to look at. Don't skimp on the thickness of the berth cushions, or the reliability of the heater.

Crews quarters up in the focsle. Galley up forward as well. Companionway leading down to main saloon. If the size of the boat allows then a sleeping cabin for the owner/guests aft of the companionway, or forward of the saloon.

Dixon Kemps manual of seamanship c 1893-1903 if you can beg borrow or buy one has lots of plans from the period...(mine's gone unfortunately)
Also Claude worth 'Cruising'for descriptions..
Usual layout as mentioned was pipecot up forward and the loo bucket,main bulkhead with or without a sliding or small hinged door..
main cabin 2 narrow bunk/seats with fixed backrests,removable skylight on cabin top,maybe a couple of half bulkheads furthar aft with tiny pantry,flat surface 'worktop'cupboard arrangenment aft of that ,steps up to non draining cockpit or lead lined if you were lucky.Space under cockpit for 2nd anchor etc.All woodwork tongue and groove for the bulkheads,teak or mahogany varnished for the joinery doors etc.Scrubbed pine sole.Couple of oil lamps on ther main bulkhead along with a barometer and clock and er mnot much else !
