What's the max permissible play in the cutlass bearing in the P-bracket (25 mm dia shaft) - ie at what point should it be replaced?
Does the rubber absorb water (ie does drying the boat out increase the apparent play)?

Re: Countrose bearings

Agree, they will also provide non standard bore specials if you shaft has even wear down.

Lots of past posts on how to change these.

hold the prop and waggle ... about 40 thou either way is ok. they should be a fit wthout shake ie not tight. if still in doubt, wander round other boats with p brackets and test. make sure owners not about ...

clean out any critters inside it ... straightened coat hanger poked through works well

Thanks. Clearance is about 20 thou total (after nearly 1000 engine hours) so I shall stop worrying about it!
