Stern gland packing had gone so i have replaced that and also found the engine mounts slightly loose.Thought this was the cause of the packing getting worn but today have found play on the prop end of the shaft. Is it worth replacing the bearing or will it last the season?

Maybe 16th inch max.. and now it judders when you turn shaft outside. Been out of the water since monday....someone said they will dry and do that??

Mine juddered - then I found out the reason why

Actually I have been very lucky. Last year they erected the gates, stopping us from using the slip. My friend has now rented the bank and slip, and I believe the cutlass bearing only came off on my previous trip up the Kyme Eau (old Sleaford Canal). It must have been loose for much of lasts year, and the long brass screws finally came out when I hit the prop on something in this little used waterway.

Although I have been led to believe she was made in the early 60s, luckily they still used 19th century technology i.e. make things strong, and last 1000 years /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
