I have a Lewmar Enguard steering pedestal on my boat with the optional single lever engine control. This weekend the lever has started creeping back up towards idle when underway which is a right pain. Does anyone know if there is any kind of friction adjuster within the control pod or should it be adjusted at the engine (Yanmar 2GM20FC)?

The Lewmar website is no help on this one so I'll have to email them if no one here has tackled this before.

Any guidance on dismantling etc would be most welcome.

Thanks,
Andrew

Many years ago I had this problem with an Edson steering pedestal throttle. I contacted Edson and they told me to put a cable clamp around the Teleflex cable at the engine end, somewhere convenient and accessable, and tighten it until the slippage went away. Naturally, I assumed they were kidding but after some banter it became obvious they were quite serious. I did as I was told, gently tightened the clamp, the slippage diminished, tightened again, the slippage went away and three years later I sold the boat, never having had to adjust the clamp again. I don't mean a cable tie, as in plastic electrical item, I mean a galvanised cable clamp comprising a small u-bolt passing through a saddle, normally used for forming an eye in wire rope.
I pass this tip on with the hope that it might save you a lot of frustration, as it did me.

Thanks John.

After lots of searching I found some similar suggestions on here and/or through google. I am hoping there is something more elegant that I can do within the control itself but it is good to hear that the clamp approach does really work.
