Hello, I slackened the air cleaner clamp on one of my Cummins engines after it had remained undisturbed for a year and a small quantity of engine oil, probably about a teaspoonful, ran out. There were just one or two drops from the other engine also. Is this normal or does it mean a turbo charger seal is starting to leak?

I am afraid that without pictures of the layout of your closed crankcase ventilation system very difficult to help.

It is highly unlikely that your turbo charger is passing oil, the standard of engine installations performed by tech's who find picking their nose intellectually challenging let alone being able to RTFM is all too common!

Correct orientation of CCV system components is vital to ensure its functionality.

Is there any possibility that you are a little anal about your engine lube oil level, constantly topping up to keep lube at max mark not leaving engine to find its own level...

Apologies for being negative but I spent last evening reviewing pictures of engine installations, so many nice shiny boats, but what is going on under the boards seems to be out of sight out of mind.

Hello Latestarter1, thanks for your comments. The next time I am on the boat, I will take some pictures and post them. By the way, any suggestions re US suppliers for Cummins parts, including a fuel lift pump, please?

Contact Brad at http://www.sbmar.com/store/

You can rely on Brad, they ship Worldwide and tell them you are a customer of Paul in the U.K

Good luck

I obviously bow to LS' comprehensive knowledge of Cummins engines but could it be that you have a Coalescing Filter that needs replacing? My previous Trader had QSB 5.9 engines and the filters needed replacing after about 600 hours. The tell tale sign was an oil weep from the filter. The replacements were horribly expensive and only obtainable from Walker Airsep or Cummins.

Thanks for the Ietting me know about Brad, Latestarter1. I checked their excellent website and will be making an order for the winter maintenance. I took some photos of the CCV system, but unfortunately, when I looked at them at home, they were useless. I will have another go in a couple of weeks.
I looked at my Coalescing Filters, but the red spot does not show, so hopefully they are OK. Interestingly, the placard on the filters says there is a cleaning kit available.

It really is impossible to take any useful photos, but no more oil has arrived, so hopefully it was just a small build up from from the breathing of over a year's running. Thanks for the replies.
