We are currently in the Caribbean, and planning next year's adventures. Cuba looks like it will make a refreshing change, but we are struggling to find up to date info - even online.

Has anyone visited Cuba recently?

Thanks,
Angus

PS may be a few days before we hit the next internet cafe

We were there 2 years ago and have very mixed feelings. Found the rigmarole of customs/immigration etc everytime you stop very tedious and in the end we gave up and left before our visa expired. Santiago de Cuba is a great entrance as ChrisB says. People are friendly, but supplies were a problem in some areas. Calder's pilot is by far the best. PM me if you want any further details but I would certainly go for the experience.

Not yet, but hoping to be there around Christmas. Heard nothing but good. Everyone's saying get there while Fidel's still alive, afterwards it will be totally different (i.e. when the US tourists arrive).

I was invited for a cruise end of April but declined and decided to do Cuba by land. By coincidence bumped into the crew in Havana. They chartered out of Trinidad (Cuba) and where hooting about how amazing and unspoilt the cruising grounds were, manta rays under the keel, deserted lagoons and totally unspoilt wilderness. I was raving in the clubs in La Habana and I think I made the right choice for my current state of mind. Anyway Cuba is an amaziong place and needs to be visited - I agree while Fidel is on the throne. After .....who knows ... Viva las chicas cubana

We're also heading there for Christmas - hoping to meet up with family near Trinidad. Are you heading along the south coast too?

Yes! We are now in Trinidad, laying up the boat at Chaguamaras. Expect to be off again October, to Venezuela first, then across to Cuba when the hurricane season is over. Will be aiming at Santiago in December or early January, then clockwise around Cuba for a month or so, eventually heading for Florida.

Will look out for "Do It", which sounds very similar to "Sentinel". My website with details of our progress is at http://www.yachtsentinel.co.uk

I also intend to be in Cuba for Christmas. In St Georges Grenada now and heading for Vnezula for the summer. Boats name is Shearwater of Dee. I'll keep my eyes open for both of you.
All the Brits I've spoken to really rate Cuba. Most of the Yanks condem it!

We are also currently in St Georges, headed for Trinidad and Venezuela! I will have a look around for you. We are the red steel cutter just outside the entrance. Hope to see you soon.
