Crush Wahers for Banjos on VP2003 engine - bulk source?

I am about to do some work on the fuel system of my spare VP2003. I have read on this forum of the importance of renewing the banjo washers every time a connection is remade. I would like to comply with this approach and was hoping to buy a 'pick&mix' bag of (copper crush) washers but this is proving to be more difficult than expected because prior to dismantling, I cannot find the various sizes needed.

My understanding is that four VP part numbers are involved; 957170, 957175, 957178 & 190990.

All I can find is that 957178 has an outer diameter of 18mm, an inner diameter of 14mm and a thickness of 1.5mm.
Also, I think, 190990 is the equivalent of Unipart 18ERR1304.

Before I spend more fruitless time searching the web, does anyone happen to know:-

What the sizes of each type are?
Where there is a reasonably priced source of a 'handful' of each?

Unfortunately, they don't do the one size I have details of. I'll wait to see if the other dimensions are known on the forum and then give Beale a call.

Copper banjo washers are made to standard sizes. A good bearing stockist should be able to get these in a wide range of sizes plus all types of associated fitting imaginable.

Copper washers and o rings should cost pennies, not the £s VP parts suppliers will charge.

I use Bearing Traders in High Wycombe, who have a catalogue thicker than Argos which has an unimaginable range if fittings for a wide range of engineering applications - oils, fuel, hydraulics, pneumatics, etc.

Copper washers

Have a look at screwfix.com catalogue item no.18756 470 washers in different sizes for £16.32. Also try looking in yellow pages for
diesel specialists - they deal in parts for vehicle diesel engines- they use copper washers as well, often the same size.
If you have a washer that you cannot source try flattening the surfaces on a piece of fine wet and dry paper supported by a glass plate.
Then the trick is to anneal it before you re-use it.Heat it up to red heat and let it cool. The temper of the metal will be softer and easier to crush.

Thanks everyone.

My plan is to buy the kit from, Keypart, note all the sizes and stick their set on board for emergency/spare use. Using that information, I'll then buy my 'handfuls' of each type from one of the suppliers you suggest (for use on the spare engine).

Copper washers can be easily re annealed for re use. Simply heat to cherry red and allow to cool naturally, followed by a quick rub with v. fine wet & dry. Worked for me with my VP 2001.

The problem I found was that every banjo joint on my engine seemed to use a different size of washer. My local diesel injection specalist says cars have standardised on one metric size, so it may not be so easy to get from these sources as you think.

??? WTF. My understanding of copper metallurgy has been wrong all these years - I wonder how I even managed to polish copper specimens (on wet-n-dry then diamond wheels) to reveal the annealled microstructure. (sans slip planes)

I suppose we all have our own ways of going mad.

Definitely quench in water and work on the copper BEFORE annealing. It will be less soft if cooled in air.

Having bought the 22031 pack from Keypart, it contains, (worked out by comparing the parts lists to the quantities):-
8x 957178 - Aluminium - 17.8x14.3x1.4
12x 957175 - Aluminium - 15.3x12.3x1.45
6x 190990 - Copper - 10.9x6.4x1
2x 957170 - Aluminium - 9.3x6.8x1

None of the suppliers mentioned seem to match the sizes exactly but the best online combination of size and availability looks to be Beal.
